MAIN ACTIVITIES

At hospital level

  • Support the activities of the emergency department, the medical department and the outpatient services by carrying out clinical activities and organising wards and services.
  • Contribute to the continuous training of health personnel in the area of competence.
  • Collaborate in the development and updating of clinical protocols and monitoring the quality of diagnosis and treatment on the basis of the protocols in force.
  • Promote strategies for improving the quality of care.
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of hospital data.
  • Collaborate in any operational research and scientific documentation activities.
  • Act as a tutor of a resident doctor involved in our Junior Project Officer program (if required).

Supporting local authorities for chronic diseases

  • Provide technical assistance to local authorities to develop the capacity of health facilities staff in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases.
  • Ensure the quality of outpatient services for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of chronic patients, in collaboration with the dedicated personnel.
  • Collaborate in the planning and implementation of courses and on-the-job training activities, and ensure periodic supervision of field training in the facilities involved.
  • Contribute to the collection, transmission and analysis of data regarding non-communicable diseases.
  • Coordinate – both at local and national level – the analysis of the situation in the field of chronic non-communicable diseases, in particular diabetes, hypertension and cervical cancer.
  • Contribute to the elaboration of reports – in the part of competence – and to the scientific documentation of project activities and results.
  • Collaborate in the identification and definition of new research topics with regards to chronic non-communicable diseases.
  • Act as a tutor of a resident doctor involved in our Junior Project Officer program (if required).

Requirements

  • Degree in Medicine and Specialisation or equivalent qualification in Internal Medicine area.
  • Good knowledge of English, French or Portuguese (depending on the destination country).
  • Professional experience in the field of Internal Medicine.
  • Preferable previous experience – working or volunteering – in fragile or low income countries.
  • Ability of adapting skills and competencies to contexts with limited resources and capacity to effectively cooperate with the national staff.
  • Availability to stay in the field for 6-12 months.
