This is the capital of Moldavia. With a population of 670,000, it is taking in a constant flow of refugees. They are mainly women, children and the elderly, who come from the southern border of Palanca, 50 km from Odessa. They come to the town and either stay for a few days, the time needed before going on to another European country, or to be able to go back to Ukraine. The Moldovan health system is fairly stable but, in a situation like this one, there are enormous difficulties in handling the new arrivals. Once it gets the go-ahead from the Moldovan Ministry of Health, CUAMM’s action will support a reception center managed by the local diocese, with a mobile clinic to provide first response health care and lighten the burden on hospitals. CUAMM will provide an Italian doctor and nurse, supported by a Moldovan nurse (who speaks Russian, Romanian and Italian).
