During the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October, Doctors with Africa Cuamm has been invited by the American organization “Together for Girls” at an event titled “Data to Action: Breaking the Cycle of Violence Against Girls.”
The event took place at the Embassy of Canada in Washington with the presence of Madam Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who discussed breaking the cycle of violence against girls.
This event was a chance to give people and organizations the opportunity to raise public awareness of the different types of discrimination and abuse that many girls around the world suffer from. This includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, access to healthcare, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and unfree child marriage.
Daniela Ligeiro CEO of together for girls has also presented the “break the cycle of violence” approach based on the use of the data to raise awareness, promote evidence-based solutions, and galvanize coordinated action across sectors to end violence against boys and girls, with a special focus on sexual violence against girls.
Violence and discrimination has an incredible impact on the health and wellbeing of adolescents. For this reason, Doctors with Africa CUAMM have developed projects that are focus on the adolescent population for the prevention of HIV\AIDS, better care and support to pregnancy in adolescents, improvement of sexual reproductive health and increased awareness about the prevention of sexual transmitted diseases.
