Doctors with Africa CUAMM and UNICEF have recently started a new partnership in Beira, Mozambique, to tackle HIV among young people.
The intervention will target adolescents accessing SAAJs, independent friendly health services for young people aiming at educating them about safe health behaviours. They offer free counselling about reproductive and sexual health, prevention, test and treatment of HIV.
The innovative aspect of the project is the case management approach, which implies a collaborative process of assessment, planning, care coordination and evaluation of options and services to meet an individual’s comprehensive health needs. When an adolescent accesses the SAAJ to be tested or treated for HIV, his/her overall clinical picture is considered in order to diagnose other possible diseases and provide adequate care, tailored to his/her needs.
This is another important step towards and AIDS free generation.
