A comprehensive commitment
Since 2006, we have been working in this country, where needs are extreme. We began our intervention at Yirol Hospital in Lakes State and later expanded to Lui, Rumbek, and Cueibet hospitals. Over the years, we have supported healthcare delivery across 8 counties and more than 100 health facilities, providing care and assistance to a neglected population. We have also faced emergencies such as famine and other extremely difficult situations. We continue our commitment today, even as international funding declines.
Training schools: Lui and Rumbek
With only 1 midwife per 10,000 women in need of care, training is a key driver of development in the country. We support two Institutes of Health Sciences in Lui (Western Equatoria State) and Rumbek (Lakes State). We train young nurses and midwives, provide scholarships, and ensure funding for teaching materials and the proper functioning of the schools. Each year, around 20 South Sudanese health professionals graduate in Lui and more than 50 in Rumbek. A drop in the ocean of need, yet one that makes a real difference.
Hospitals in Yirol, Rumbek, and Cueibet
Hospitals are at the heart of our intervention and also serve as reference points for public health activities in surrounding areas. We support both outpatient services and key departments (medicine, surgery, pediatrics, maternity), ensuring timely management of obstetric and surgical emergencies. We have also established a free, 24/7 ambulance service for obstetric and pediatric emergencies, and an eye clinic in Rumbek.
