Prevention and treatment for the well-being of children and communities

Malnutrition is among the leading causes of illness and death in children under five and continues to represent one of the most urgent challenges to global health. It affects children silently but profoundly, worsening the impact of other diseases and hindering the development of both children and communities.

Preventing and treating malnutrition

Ensuring good nutrition, especially during pregnancy and the first years of life, is essential. Medici con l’Africa Cuamm works to prevent and treat malnutrition by supporting national programs and promoting nutrition education for pregnant women and mothers within communities and health facilities.

WHAT WE DO

Our commitment extends across health facilities and communities, with a particular focus on prevention and early intervention. In particular, we:

Encourage exclusive breastfeeding up to six months of age

Monitor children’s growth to identify risk situations early

Train healthcare workers in the early diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition

Support hospitals and nutrition units in managing the most severe cases

Carry out awareness and nutrition education programs

Promote interventions that improve families’ nutrition and hygiene practices
In the most severe situations, we provide treatment for acute malnutrition by supporting hospitals and peripheral nutrition units. We also address chronic malnutrition through educational initiatives and long-term programs, working every day alongside local communities. This is an ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare and adequate nutrition for all.
