The Foundation 'CUAMM Doctors with Africa', formerly 'Opera San Francesco Saverio', is a legally recognized religious foundation.

What we do every day

Although unique, the Foundation is composed of three main components:

Pursuant to Article 5 of Legislative Decree No. 117/2017, the Foundation, as a civilly recognised ecclesiastical entity, has adopted specific regulations governing the Foundation’s Third Sector Entity (ETS) branch, which is separately integrated into the Foundation and operates under the name “Doctors with Africa CUAMM”. These regulations were published by deed of Notary Dr Nicolas Marcolina of Padua on 26 March 2026, under deed no. 4168, collection no. 3068.

On 25 May 2026, the ETS branch was registered, under deed no. 172413, in the “Other Third Sector Entities” section of the National Single Register of the Third Sector (RUNTS).

Pursuant to Article 26(2) of Law No. 125/2014, Medici con l’Africa Cuamm is registered in the list of civil society organisations maintained by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

On 13 November 2020, the European Commission (Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations) awarded Doctors with Africa CUAMM the EU-Humanitarian-Partnership.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS, 2024–2026 TERM

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, comprising eight members and the Bishop of Padua, who serves as Chair ex officio. The Board of Directors and its Chair are responsible for the Foundation’s governance, exercising functions of strategic direction, oversight and promotion.

The Director of the NGO-ETS Doctors with Africa CUAMM is responsible for the organisation and management of all activities. The Director is appointed by the Board of Directors for a renewable three-year term of office. The position is currently held by Fr Dante Carraro. Country Representatives act as the legal representatives in the countries where they operate and are responsible for local management and planning. They are proposed by the Director to the Board of Directors, which appoints and dismisses them. They report operationally to the Director.
