Since 1950 Doctors with Africa CUAMM has been committed to promoting and protecting the health of African populations. In this album of memories we wanted to collect some of the most significant moments of these 70 years of history to share together the journey made thanks to the stories, the lives, the steps of the many who, over time, have chosen to walk “with” Africa.

Inauguration of the Arua hospital

CUAMM intervenes with an assistance program for orphans and unaccompanied children

CUAMM arrives in Angola

Maria Bonino, a CUAMM doctor, dies

Marburg hemorrhagic fever epidemic in northern Angola, CUAMM doctor Maria Bonino, one of the first to give the alarm, is infected and dies a few days later in Luanda

The presence of Doctors with Africa CUAMM begins in South Sudan

First medical degrees in Mozambique

The first group of 13 medical students from the Catholic University of Mozambique, started by Doctors with Africa CUAMM graduates in Beira

New CUAMM director

Don Luigi Mazzucato ends his term as director of Doctors with Africa CUAMM, the new director is Don Dante Carraro.

Celebration of CUAMM’s 60th anniversary

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Doctors with Africa CUAMM, Don Luigi Mazzucato was awarded an honorary degree in human rights and peace institutions and policies by the University of Padua. CUAMM’s 60th anniversary is celebrated in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

The book “Il bene ostinato” by Paolo Rumiz is released

Doctors with Africa CUAMM’s work is documented in the book “Il bene ostinato” by Paolo Rumiz, published by Feltrinelli, and released in bookstores on 23 March 2011.

Mothers and children first

At CUAMM’s Annual Meeting, the launch of the “Mothers and Children First” program in Angola, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda is announced.

Civil war breaks out in South Sudan. Despite the changed context and instability, Doctors with Africa CUAMM decides to remain alongside the South Sudanese population

Ebola broke out in West Africa

WHO declares the presence of Ebola in West Africa, the most serious epidemic ever recorded. Sierra Leone is among the most affected countries, CUAMM collaborates with the Pujehun district to address it, the district will be the first in the country to be declared Ebola-Free.
