{"id":70018,"date":"2025-06-12T16:12:57","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T14:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/?p=70018"},"modified":"2025-06-12T16:12:57","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T14:12:57","slug":"ukraine-no-truce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/it\/ukraine-no-truce\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine No truce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three years ago, we launched an intervention in the country with the twofold objective of <strong>providing support to the civilian population<\/strong> affected by the conflict and <strong>equipping healthcare facilities in need <\/strong>with consumables, equipment and emergency kits needed to ensure care\u2014particularly in areas closest to the front line.<\/p>\n<p>It is precisely the <strong>medical logistics<\/strong> activity to have distinguished CUAMM\u2019s intervention in the country from the beginning. Based on the <strong>Health Request Planning and Response Tool<\/strong> developed by the WHO, this activity, in line with <strong>Strategic Objective 113<\/strong> of the <strong>2023 Ukraine Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP)<\/strong> and <strong>Health Cluster Objective 114<\/strong>, also contributed to the cluster\u2019s core activity: <em>\u201cProcure, prepare, and distribute essential medicines, medical equipment, and consumables to healthcare facilities.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-70019 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/sdfg.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/sdfg.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/sdfg-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/sdfg-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The greatest needs have always been surgical instruments and emergency kits, especially for facilities located right on or near the front line. Sutures, needles, forceps, surgical scissors\u2014as well as trauma management and care tools like neck collars, spinal boards, and evacuation stretchers\u2014are the most requested supplies,&#8221; <strong>said Francesco Belotti, CUAMM Project Manager in Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Among the most at-risk facilities are those in the Donetsk region, which a few months ago, as the front line advanced, were ordered to evacuate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;These were two healthcare facilities that suddenly found themselves just a few kilometers from the fighting. The entire area was evacuated, and healthcare staff were relocated elsewhere. As a result, the nearest remaining healthcare posts became reference points without the real capacity to manage care. That\u2019s exactly where we redirected our distribution&#8221; <strong>claimed Francesco Belotti.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Donetsk region, together with the Kherson and Sumy regions, is among the hardest hit by the most recent attacks. Today, giving continuity to the intervention is important in order to ensure the functioning of health facilities in distress, provide health services to the population and facilitate the reconstruction phase,\u201d <strong>said Andrea Atzori &#8211; Head of International Relations of CUAMM.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since first medical logistics operations, started in July 2024 and recently completed, we have involved <strong>eleven healthcare facilities<\/strong> located in <strong>Dnipropetrovska and Donetska oblasts<\/strong>, reaching a target population of <strong>30,400 people<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe medical logistics activity is part of the <strong>SAFE-UKR project<\/strong>: <em>Support and Assistance for Families in Emergency in Ukraine<\/em>, which is part of a <strong>\u20ac46.5 million initiative funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS)<\/strong> that reaches over <strong>900,000 people<\/strong> affected by the Ukrainian crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As fighting intensifies in the east, medical logistics becomes even more important to ensure adeguate and timely care in areas most affected by the conflict.
