Every day we work with commitment and dedication in <strong>9 countries<\/strong> to promote the universal right to health for all, especially the most vulnerable. From the tireless work of our humanitarian workers on the field to the daily dedication of those in CUAMM\u2019s offices, every achievement is the result of a shared commitment you are also part of. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported CUAMM this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a selection of <strong>10 moments from 2024<\/strong> we have chosen to recall <strong>a year of unwavering commitment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>ETHIOPIA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67870 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Ethiopia.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Ethiopia.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Ethiopia-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Ethiopia-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the northern region of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/reconstructing-health-care-in-war-torn-tigray-region\/\">Tigray<\/a><\/strong>, devastated by a prolonged internal conflict, we have initiated the reconstruction of <strong>Shire Hospital<\/strong> which serves approximately 2 million people, along with five surrounding health centers. Shire Indasilasse is one of the areas most severely affected by the conflict. Widespread looting and destruction have had a profound impact on the delivery of basic services to the population in a region that hosts the highest number of internally displaced persons.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>MOZAMBIQUE<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67871 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Mz.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Mz.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Mz-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Mz-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The commitment and collaboration with the Catholic University of Mozambique, based in the city of Beira, goes on. This year, several young people made their dream come true and can finally hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/future-doctors-in-mozambique\/\"><strong>degree in general medicine<\/strong><\/a>. For young individuals like Atianete, Herc\u00edlia, Muaziza, and Victorino, this milestone was achieved thanks to their commitment and dedication and also, with the support of s<strong>cholarships provided by CUAMM.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>IVORY COAST<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67872 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Costa.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Costa.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Costa-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Costa-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The urban health center of Anonkoua Kout\u00e9 is located in <strong>Abobo<\/strong>, the most populous district in the country. At this center, which handles 3,700 deliveries per year, we inaugurated a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/enlarging-space-for-maternity-care-in-ivory-coast\/\">new maternity ward.<\/a> <\/strong>This initiative aims to fulfill one of the objectives of the national health strategic plan: ensuring free and semi-free access to healthcare across the country.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>ANGOLA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67873 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Angola.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Angola.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Angola-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Angola-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive program where health, environment, and community empowerment come together as one. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/clean-cooking-angola\/\">The Clean Cooking initiative<\/a>,<\/strong> launched in the province of Uige, aims to introduce improved cooking methods to <strong>mitigate<\/strong> the harmful effects of traditional practices, such as respiratory diseases, deforestation, and social exclusion, to name a few. This intervention will involve 16 municipalities and approximately 200,000 families.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>SIERRA LEONE<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67874 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/sierr.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/sierr.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/sierr-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/sierr-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>New, larger, and more functional premises<\/strong> have been inaugurated at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/sierra-leone-new-premises-at-pcmh\/\">Princess Christian Maternal Hospital (PCMH)<\/a><\/strong> in Freetown. In October, together with the Minister of Health, we opened the doors to a new outpatient department and a renovated pharmacy for this hospital, which serves over 1.3 million people.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67875 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RCA.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RCA.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RCA-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/RCA-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An area with 200,000 people and a 120-bed hospital eight hours of driving away from the capital, Bangui. Here, with the construction of the <strong>new maternity ward<\/strong> at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/senza-categoria\/car-expanding-intervention-in-the-countrys-last-mile\/\">Bossangoa hospital,<\/a><\/strong> CUAMM\u2019s commitment in the country resumes, amid a context of significant internal instability marked by conflict and armed violence.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>TANZANIA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67876 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tanzania-1.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tanzania-1.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tanzania-1-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Tanzania-1-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force<\/strong> on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases has awarded Doctors with Africa CUAMM the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/cuamm-recognized-by-who-for-its-commitment-in-controlling-ncds\/\">Task Force Awards 2024<\/a><\/strong> for its commitment to improving health outcomes in rural areas of Tanzania.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>SOUTH SUDAN<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67877 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/SouthSudan.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/SouthSudan.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/SouthSudan-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/SouthSudan-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adior, in Lakes State, about an hour&#8217;s drive from Yirol. In the health center of this small town, where only ruined buildings stood three years ago, there is <strong>now a maternity ward<\/strong>. We inaugurated it in July, celebrating the event with the Minister of Health and the entire community.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>UGANDA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67879 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Uganda-1.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Uganda-1.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Uganda-1-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Uganda-1-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>new <a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/a-new-possibility-for-newborn-babies-in-karamoja\/\">neonatal intensive care unit<\/a> <\/strong>was inaugurated in Matany, <strong>Karamoja<\/strong>. This region, the poorest in the country, records an average of 550 perinatal deaths annually, including 160 neonatal deaths, many of which are preventable. The construction of this new unit comes after the interventions already carried out in support of three other hospitals in the region.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #d05c43\"><strong>ITALY<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-67880 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Premio_Feltrinelli_Lincei_2024_Cuamm2.jpg\" width=\"670\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Premio_Feltrinelli_Lincei_2024_Cuamm2.jpg 670w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Premio_Feltrinelli_Lincei_2024_Cuamm2-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Premio_Feltrinelli_Lincei_2024_Cuamm2-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>CUAMM has been awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/doctorswithafrica.org\/en\/whats-new\/news\/homenews\/cuamm-awarded-by-accademia-nazionale-dei-lincei\/\">&#8220;Antonio Feltrinelli 2024&#8221; Prize<\/a> by the Accademia dei Lincei for an exceptional initiative of high moral and humanitarian value.
